As the broadband and mobile communication infrastructure continues to improve, the fundamental structure of today’s Internet businesses is changing to one that focuses on the speed and quality of higher-layer applications and services. As the concept of Web 2.0 is fully embraced by the general public and the shift toward a more intelligent, real-time Web 3.0 architecture is ready to emerge, DG Incubation --the central force in our incubation business-- is assisting next-generation venture companies aiming to create their own business contexts. Specifically, DG Incubation, which has taken on the VTC (Venture Transformation Capital) business activities of Digital Garage, offers support for private equity investment, entrepreneurship support and business assistance for pre-IPO companies. Early in 2006 we established Joi Ito’s Lab, headed by Digital Garage Director Joichi Ito, to expand our access to promising IT ventures at the startup stage by offering premier R&D services covering the latest Internet technologies and business models. We have also implemented an organizational structure designed to help us discover new frontier technologies that will lead to the Web 3.0 era. Through these comprehensive efforts in the business incubation domain we will help develop and improve the lifestyle, society and industries of Japan, all of which are changing rapidly with the progress of the Internet.
