Digital Garage launches One-Segment business initiative
"kakaku.com TV" to begin airing on Tokyo MX TV from April
- DG to develop platform for One-Segment Broadcasting –


Digital Garage, Inc. (JASDAQ code: 4819, located Shibuya Tokyo Japan, CEO Kaoru Hayashi) and its group companies including Kakaku.com Inc., (TSE Code: 2371, located Bunkyo Tokyo, Japan) will launch a new business initiative for "One-Segment" broadcasting: terrestrial digital broadcasting for mobile phones.

As the first activity of the initiative, "Kakucom TV" will test run on Tokyo Metropolitan Television (located Tokyo, Japan, CEO: Goto, hereafter MXTV.) The show will air on Mondays to Friday from 9:55 PM to 10:00 PM and will include product and service information gathered by Kakaku.com including "word-of-mouth" information.

MXTV will begin its One-segment broadcasting in July. One-segment digital broadcasting will allow for the addition of supplementary information to the usual video and audio of traditional broadcasting, creating a value added-service for mobile phones.

One-segment broadcasting makes possible the reception and display of data in BML(broadcast markup language)in coordination with the show's video and audio data. With BML it possible to add information such as text, images, and Internet links. For example, with kakaku.com TV it is planned to send product and word-of-mouth information to be broadcast along with links for more details. Viewers may then click to get price information, etc. or to purchase products online.

Meanwhile DG Group company, DG Mobile (located in Shibuya Tokyo, CEO Kazusuke Obi) is develop a platform for One-segment contents and services that merges broadcasting and tele-communications. The platform will be designed for services directed at One-segment viewers and e-commerce, and will be first provided to MXTV before being marketed to other broadcasters.

Recently established DG Media Marketing Inc., (located Bunkyo, Tokyo, Japan, CEO Taizo Ieuji) plans to develop an affiliate based advertising product which will be used in One-segment broadcasting.

By bringing together its service know-how in the areas of content creation, mobile services as well as advertising product development, the DG Group aims to create new business opportunities for Japanese broadcasters, and at the same to create a business model with merits for viewers and Internet providers.
