Open Network Lab Begins Accepting Applications for the 9th Batch of its Incubation Program

Harnessing San Francisco DG717 as a Base for Global Development

Global startup incubator Open Network Lab (“Onlab”), a subsidiary of Digital Garage, Inc. (JASDAQ: 4819, Head Office: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo, Japan, President: Kaoru Hayashi, henceforth “DG”), begins accepting applications for its 9th Seed Accelerator incubation program (running from July through September, 2014, designed for entrepreneurs aiming to build a global technology startup.

This program is a three-month mentorship that provides seed funding and office space to a carefully selected group of skilled, ambitious entrepreneurs who aiming to create and grow global businesses. The selected teams will receive mentorships and advices from experienced engineers, entrepreneurs and investors from both Japan and overseas. Since the inception of the program in the summer of 2010, over 500 teams have applied from all over the world. Out of the applications, a total of 45 teams have been selected to enter the program, where experienced startup founders from at home and abroad — including Joi Ito, DG’s cofounder and current director of the MIT Media Lab – have provided mentorship to help nurture and grow each startup team. Graduates of Onlab’s Seed Accelerator program include Fablic, the team that developed the mobile C2C flea market app “Fril,” papelook, developer of a camera app that recorded 10,000,000 downloads, and WHILL, the company behind the next generation of wheelchairs. Graduates receive continuing support from Onlab after the program ends, and many of these companies continue to grow their products and businesses today.

In addition to the co-working space in Daikanyama (Tokyo), Digital Garage will provide its DG717 incubation center in San Francisco (opened in Fall, 2013) as an office space option for Seed Accelerator teams. This new co-working space provides an operating center for teams aiming to expand their businesses into the U.S. market, as well as directly experience the Bay Area startup scene.
